What We Believe

The Bible is the only inspired Word of God; complete, infallible, and the final authority for all matters of faith and practice.

Romans 15:4, Hebrews 4:12, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Matthew 5:17-20, 1 Peter 1:10-12, 2 Peter 1:20-21

GOD

We believe in one true and holy God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Deuteronomy 6:4-5, Matthew 28:19, Matthew 3:16-17, Luke 3:22, John 14:9-10, 26

We believe in the beginning, God created all things from nothing, speaking them directly into existence by the word of His power.

Genesis 1:1-2, John 1:1-2, Acts 17:24–28, Hebrews 1:3

Man

MAN

We believe God created mankind in his image, both male and female and that as image-bearers of God, each person has inherent

worth.

Genesis 1:26-31, Luke 12:6-7

We believe man willfully sinned against God, and as a result, is condemned and without hope apart from Jesus Christ.

Genesis 3, Acts 4:12, Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23, Romans 8:1, 1 John 1:7, John 5:39-40, Ephesians 2:1-3

We believe that through sin, mankind became subject to death and judgment, but through God’s plan of salvation in Jesus Christ the

broken relationship between God and man will be eternally restored.

Genesis 3:22-24, Romans 5:12-21, Hebrews 9:27-28, Revelation 21:1-5

Jesus Christ

JESUS

We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son and Savior of the world, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin, fully God and

fully man.

John 3:16-17, Matthew 1:18-23, John 1:1-2; 20:24-31, Luke 1:26-37, Hebrews 2:17

We believe in the sinless life of Christ, perfectly obedient to the Father, voluntarily given as a sacrifice to satisfy divine justice and to

accomplish salvation for all who trust in Him alone.

Hebrews 4:14-16, Hebrews 10:5-18, John 10:18, Romans 10:13

We believe in the literal, bodily resurrection of Jesus from the dead.

Luke 24, 1 Corinthians 15:1-8, John 20:24-29

We believe that the resurrected Christ, the only mediator between God and Man, ascended into heaven and is seated at the right-hand

of the Father, living to make intercession for His own.

Hebrews 1:3, 1 Timothy 2:5, Hebrews 7:25

We believe that Jesus Christ, having been given all authority by the Father, shall return to judge the Earth and to consummate God’s

eternal plan of salvation.

Matthew 28:18, Philippians 2:9-11, Psalm 96:13, Acts 1:11, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, Revelation 11:18

Holy Spirit

HOLY SPIRIT

We believe God the Holy Spirit lives within individual believers, regenerating them, guiding them, and enabling them to bear fruit to the

glory of the Father.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20, John 3:5-8, John 14:16-18, John 16:7-15, 1 Corinthians 12:7-13, Galatians 5:22-25, Ephesians 1:13-14, Ephesians 5:18

Salvation

SALVATION

We believe salvation–the forgiveness of sins—cannot be earned, but comes only by grace through the blood of Jesus in His atoning

death on the cross, and is appropriated by personal repentance and faith in Christ.

Matthew 26:28, Romans 3:9-26, Romans 5:8–12, Ephesians 2:4-10

We believe the Bible teaches that the model for receiving Jesus as Savior is: to believe in Christ as God’s Son and Savior of the world,

to repent of personal sin, to confess Christ as Lord, and to be immersed in baptism.

Luke 24:45-47, John 3:16, Acts 2:37-38, Acts 16:30-31, Acts 3:19, Luke 13:3, Romans 6:1-7, Romans 10:9, 2 Peter 3:9

THE CHURCH

We believe the Church is the body and bride of Christ, founded on the day of Pentecost, consisting of all those who acknowledge Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

Matthew 16:13-18, Acts 2:14–47, 1 Corinthians 12-13, Ephesians 4:3-6

We believe the Church is God’s family on Earth, of which Christ is the head.

Ephesians 5:23, Ephesians 1:22-23, 1 Timothy 3:14-15

We believe Scripture instructs believers to gather to devote themselves to worship, prayer, fellowship, teaching of the Word, as well as to observe communion and baptism by immersion as ordinances established by Jesus Christ.

Acts 2:42-47, Hebrews 10:23-25, 1 Corinthians 12:12-27

We believe, as an organized, localized expression of the Body under the watch of elders and the supportive leadership of staff and deacons, all members are to work together in love and unity, intent on the one ultimate purpose of glorifying Christ.

1 Timothy 3:1-13, Ephesians 1:11-12, 1 Peter 2:9, John 17, Hebrews 13:17

At Tyro Christian Church, as Thomas Campbell stated in 1809, we take this approach, and believe it to be scripturally sound:

“Where the Bible speaks, we speak; where the Bible is silent, we are silent.”

Acts 20:27, Galatians 1:8-9, 1 Peter 4:11, 2 John 9, Matthew 15:8-9
